JoCo Flags For Heroes
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Does my hero have to be a Veteran?
While many do honor Veterans, it is not a requirement. Your hero is a personal choice. This is a hero to you that you are honoring, so it is up to you.
-
Does my hero have to be human?
No, it’s your personal choice. Previously, someone sponsored a flag for their mother’s service dog.
-
Does my hero have to be living?
Again, your hero is your choice. Many of our sponsors honor someone who has passed.
-
Do I have to have a company to be a Corporate Sponsor?
No, an individual, couple, or family can be a Silver, Gold, or Platinum sponsor. You do not need to be affiliated with a company/corporation.
-
When the flags get raised, can I pick where my flag goes in the field?
No. While you are welcome to help raise the flags, the medallions are not installed simultaneously. You cannot choose which flag your hero medallion gets hung onto. They are attached in a particular order.
-
How will I find the flag(s) I sponsored once they are in the field?
Once the medallions get attached, a printed list will be available at the Field of Honor to tell you where your hero’s flag is located. Due to our flag raising being done in the evening, the medallions will get attached during the following week.
-
When do I get the medallion(s) for the flag(s) I sponsored?
On the night of the closing ceremony, we will lower the flags. If you are present, you will be given the medallion to take home that night. If you are not present, the medallions will be available to pick up later. We will announce on our website and JoCo Flags for Heroes Facebook page the dates and location where they will be available once the display is over.
-
Can I have more than one sponsor name for my one hero?
Yes, as long as the total number of letters, characters, and spaces does not exceed 25.
-
Can I have more than one hero on my medallion?
No. There is one hero per flag/medallion.
-
How long can my hero’s name be?
The hero’s name (including any title, military rank, etc.) cannot exceed 25 letters/characters/spaces.
-
Once I sponsor a flag, how will I find it at the Field of Honor?
A few days after the flag raising, we will have all the medallions placed on each flag. A printed list will be available at the field that shows which row and flag number your flag is located. They will be listed by Sponsor name.
-
Can I go to the Field of Honor and take pictures?
Yes, you are allowed to visit the field, walk amongst the flags, and take photos freely.
-
Where does the money go from the sponsorships?
Your sponsorship affords the three Rotary Clubs in Johnston County, Clayton Rotary Club, Cleveland School Rotary Club, and Central Johnston County Rotary Club, the ability to provide community programs, donations to worthy causes such as Stop Soldier Suicide, and scholarships to local high school seniors among other projects. Each Club has its own list of projects. Contact each Club for their specific list.
