Clayton Rotary Club, family, and friends gave tribute to Veterans on Veterans Day! On a beautiful, crisp, and cool morning yesterday, November 11, 2021, at 8:30am, we gave a tribute to Veterans by raising a handful of American Flags, five branch of service flags, and the POW-MIA flag in the JoCo Flags For Heroes field next to the hospital on NC Hwy 42 W in Clayton. Amongst a small group of Veterans, Rotarians, and supporters, JoCo Flags for Heroes project chairman, Leigh Hudson, asked Veterans and/or family members of each branch who were present, to say a few words as they took their flag and planted it in the field. They talked about their experiences and what it meant to be a Veteran or family member of a Veteran (except for the lone Coast Guard family member who had laryngitis), and some emotional words for those who were POWs and MIA. It was a beautiful and touching presentation and we enjoyed the drivers passing by who honked their horns in support of our Veterans. If you’d like to see the display in person, you can stop by and walk amongst the flags. The flags will remain up until the morning of Thursday, November 18, when Clayton Rotary Club members will take down the display.
